Klemens (usurpator)

Clemens (d. 16 n.) - usurper at the time of the Emperor Tiberius.

Clement was a slave to Agrippa Postumus, grandson of Augustus, who was assassinated at the beginning of Tiberius' rule in 14 n.e. After the death of his master he stole his ashes. Then he went to Etruria, gave her hair and beard to Agrippa, and claimed that he was Postumus. He managed to gather in 16 n.e. a group of people in Gaul and Italy. During the march to Rome (in Ostia it was greeted by a large crowd) was caught by Tiberius command by Gaius Salustius Kryspus and after torture lost. According to Cassius Dion, Tiberius was to ask Klemes: "How did you become Agrippa?" And in response he heard: "In the same way as you became Caesar." Bibliography Sources Studies
