Gospel of regular canons from Krakow
The Gospel of Regular Canons from Krakow - a codex from c. 1420 containing 107 Latin sermons, preceded by excerpts from the gospel with voices in Polish.
The codex is the property of the library of regular canons in Krakow. The manuscript was written around 1420 in the Augustinian scriptorium in Kazimierz. Extensive Polish glosses form an almost continuous translation of the pericope from the Gospels of Matthew (5, 20-24), Mark (11, 1-3; 16, 1-7), and Luke (2, 42-52; 8, 4-15; 21, 25-27; 24, 13-35) and John (3, 16-21; 8, 46-59; 15, 26-27; 16, 1-4. 5-15; 18, 1-40; 19, 1 -42). There is a double interline between the verses of the Latin gospel, which suggests that the voices were planned at the manuscript creation stage.
Voices are written in a mixture of Polish and Czech with the predominance of Czech elements. This may have been due to the fact that the copyist was of Czech origin, and used a former Polish translation which he modernized himself. According to another hypothesis, the author used the Czech translation of the gospel which he inconsistently polonised. Bibliography
