Ars dictaminis (traktat)

Ars dictaminis - an anonymous medieval treatise in Latin devoted to the art of writing texts.

The manuscript of the treatise is contained in a manuscript kept in the Jagiellonian Library (p. 606-744). The treaty was probably just after 1449 or close to that date.

The work begins with a short introduction regarding rhetoric (definition of rhetoric and rhetoric). Then there is a lecture on the topic of ars dictaminis (including the distinction between a poetic work and a letter, types of letters, and the list of parts). The next extensive passage concerns the initial greeting and formulas ending the letter with regard to the style depending on the recipient's social status. Next, the other parts of the letter are discussed. The following parts of the treatise are devoted to other rhetorical issues. Bibliography
