Christ was born to us

Christ was born to us - a carol was probably created in the early 14th century. The author of the song is anonymous. It is probably a converted Christmas carol "Christus natus est nobis" (from which also comes another Polish translation - "Christ, Christ was born"). The carol comes from the lost Przeworszczyk's Kancjonale. It was also published by Michał Hieronim Juszyński. The whole text of Christmas carols is not known at all - the first verse is known from the first version. Other verses are from the Baptist Peter Artomius (1578). In 1893 various varieties of "Christ was born" were collected and published by Mikolaj Bobowski in Polish Catholic Songs from the earliest times to the end of the sixteenth century. He found in the Catechism of Krakow (1643) a version of a carol from 1521 with another record of the first two verses. "Chrustus we were born", which is a translation of the Latin motet "Christus, Christus natus est", is also Polish antiphon made on introit. Bibliography
