Sonderkommando Ost (Russian Зондеркоманда Восток) - German Special Forces of the Third Reich at the end of World War II The Sonderkommmando Ost was formed in the autumn of 1944. It was headed by the SS-Sturmbannführer Friedrich Buchardt, a deputy in the III-B2 (national minorities) department of the 3rd Reich Security Office (RSHA). It served as a liaison officer (Verbindungsstab) RSHA with the command of the newly formed Armed Forces of the Committee of the Liberation of the Nations of Russia Andrea A. Vlasov. The task of the body was to officially protect the organizational and administrative and material issues related to the creation of the Armed Forces of the KONR. Actually, members of the Sonderkommando Ost, recruited exclusively from RSHA officers, also dealt with controlling the activities of people associated with the "self" movement. Bibliography
