Bas van der Vlies


Bastiaan Johannis (Bas) van der Vlies (born June 29, 1942 in Sliedrecht) is a Dutch politician and teacher, longtime MP and leader of the Political Protest Party (SGP). Curriculum vitae

He graduated from Delft University of Technology. From 1967 to 1981 he worked as a mathematics teacher, and since 1973 he was also the vice president of the Christian College Blaucapel. Founded in various advisory bodies and managing conservative social and religious organizations. He became involved in political activities within the Political Protest Party, bringing together Orthodox Calvinists. In 1974-1982 he sat in the council of Utrecht. Between 1981 and 2010 he continued to sit on her shoulder at Tweede Kamer, the lower chamber of the United States. From 1986 to 2010 he was the leader of SGP and at the same time he was chairman of its small parliamentary factions (with 2 or 3 people in different terms).

Awarded the Knight of the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands (1994) and the Order of Oranje-Nassau (2010).
