Zapora Danjiangkou


Danjiangkou Dam (China: 丹江口 大坝; pinyin: Dānjiāngkǒu Dàbà) - Dam and hydroelectric dam on the Han Shui River (Yangtze River) in China.

The dam was built between 1958 and 1973. At the time of commissioning it was one of the largest facilities of its kind in Asia. The length of the dam is 2494 meters and its average height is 111.6 meters. In recent years, the Chinese authorities have begun a major overhaul of the facility, aiming to increase its height and maximize its energy efficiency. The current capacity of the hydroelectric power plant is 900 MW.

As a consequence of the dam, 383 000 inhabitants were resettled.
