Raphaël Chanterie


Raphaël Chanterie (born November 22, 1942 in Oeselgem, Brussels) is a Belgian and Flemish politician and trade union activist, Member of the European Parliament, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th term. Curriculum vitae

He was the chairman of the union of textile and clothing workers. He also served as Secretary General of the EUCDW, a Christian Democratic Union organization in the European People's Party. A longtime activist of the Christian People's Party, he was a member of the executive branch of this party and was also part of the political office of the Christian-democratic international.

From 1981 to 1999 he held the mandate of the MEP for four terms. He was the Vice-President of the Christian Democratic Group and the Chairman of the Committee on Petitions. Having left the EP since 1999, he was in charge of the head of the political office of European Commissioner Viviane Reding.
