Nocturnal forehead epilepsy

Nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy (NFLE) - a form of epilepsy in which seizures occur at night and may resemble some sleep disorders. During an attack, the person affected by this form of epilepsy performs complex movements of the limbs (clenching hands, raising and lowering hands, bending the knees), often makes sounds (cries, shouts, moans). The onset is usually manifested in childhood, in 80% of cases in the first two decades of life. Nocturnal frontal epilepsy is a genetic disease and often occurs in the family. Four gene loci for inherited autosomal dominant nocturnal epilepsy (ADNFLE) have been identified, of which genes in which the mutations cause the disease were identified in three cases. CHRNA4, CHRNB2 and CHRNA2 genes encode nicotinic receptor subunits. The treatment is pharmacological and consists in administering antiepileptic drugs. The disease is rare, more than 100 cases have been described.
