Martha Wadsworth Brewster


Martha Wadsworth Brewster (born 1710, died around 1757) - she was an American poet, the first native American to publish under her own name. She was born, lived and probably died in Lebanon, Connecticut. Oliver Brewster's former wife and had two children with him, Ruby's daughter and Wadsworth's son. Among other things, she wrote poems with acrostic (An Acrostick for my Only Son, An Acrostick for my Only Daughter). She published the poem Poems on Divers' Records (Poems on Various Topics, New London 1757, Boston 1758).
