Excavations (agriculture)

Wykopki - a collection of root crops, ie digging potatoes, beetroots, carrots etc. from the field. Potato excavations in Poland

In Poland, potato excavations fall at the beginning of autumn, in the last weeks of September. On the fields potatoes are minced from the ground by mechanical method (potato digger) or by hand.

Traditionally, this is an opportunity to celebrate in rural communities: smoking in the evening, bonfire, singing and baking potatoes. There are organized events under the slogan "kopopki" but also "potato festival" (regionally also called "the day of turnip") or "feast of baked potato."
