In the years 1903-1915 he studied at the Moscow school of painting, in 1915 he was appointed to the Russian army, in 1925 he joined the Association of Revolutionary Artists of Russia. Initially, he worked on landscapes, later he took up portraits and in this field he gained the recognition of the communist party. In the years 1929-1930 he painted the canvas "Lenin in the tribune" and thanks to this work he became known. In 1933 he painted the painting "Stalin's speech at the 16th Congress of the Communist Party of Poland (b)", in 1936 "Stalin among the commanders of the 1st Horse Army", in 1938 "Stalin and Voroshilov in the Kremlin", in 1939 "IW Stalin and AM Gorki in Gorky", and in 1943 painting "October Hymn". In the years 1938-1939 he painted a large number of portraits of Stalin, later recognized as canonical. In 1945, he painted the paintings of the "Tehran Conference of Leaders of the Three Great Powers" and the "Moscow Conference of Foreign Ministers of the Three Great Powers," and 1945-1947 "Portrait of I. Stalin. In 1947 he took over the leadership of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR, which he held until 1957. In 1948 he created "Portrait of KJ Voroshilov" and "Portrait of WM Molotov", and in 1949 the painting "Stalin on the grave of AA Zhdanov", in 1950 became a member of the WKP (b), 1950 -1951 together with the studio of the Academy of Fine Arts created the painting "The Great Curse" about Stalin's speech at the 2nd Congress of Soviets. He was Stalin's favorite painter. After Stalin's death, Gierasimov's influence began to decline, and after the Twentieth Congress of the CPSU, he was removed from the Academy's affairs. He was awarded the Lenin Order and two other orders. He received the Stalinist Award four times - in 1941, 1943, 1946 and 1949. He was buried at the Nowodziewicz Cemetery. Bibliography and
