One of the leading research institutes in Russia in the field of physics. It is also one of the oldest institutions in Russia. His story goes back to the collection of laboratory equipment for the study of physical phenomena, established by Peter the Great in Kunstkamer, St. Petersburg in 1714. In its present form, the Institute was created in 1934 by Sergei Vavilov.
Wide range of research activities include: laser technology, dark matter structure, nanostructures, superconductivity, cosmic rays and gamma ray astronomy. The Institute has developed a technique for crystallization of zirconia.

In January 1874 he became the owner of "Tygodnik Wielkopolski". In addition to the status of the owner of the magazine, he was unofficially an editor and published his own articles, poems, translations of French, English and German poetry. In 1879 he acquired property in Gulczewo near Plock and settled there. He began to write to "Plock Correspondent" and "Plock Chronicles". The last of his articles appeared in 1888.
