Swat

Swat - in Polish tradition, a person who associates couples.

In some regions of Poland, the words swat and swatka are Old Polish names of family members, they are called the parents of the son-in-law or son-in-law, so those who are the father-in-law are the parents. More in article → family relationship.

Nowadays, the tradition of associating people for marriage is going away. In Western European countries and in the United States, it is rather the person responsible for the preparation of bachelors and maidens.
