Palemona Mountain - a fortification located on the banks of the Nemunas near the town of Litva.

In this place, in the 10th century, it was a Lithuanian town, which in the 13th century was one of the most important fortress against the Teutonic invaders. This castle is under the names of Bissen, Bissen, Pissen, Pistene, Pieštve.

The castle was attacked in 1294 and 1293. In 1294 it was captured by the Teutonic Knights and burned. Shortly afterwards, rebuilt, again besieged in 1298, 1318, 1319, 1322, finally abandoned by Lithuanians. Currently visible majdan of size 50 × 45 meters as well as footprints of embankments, moats and terraces.

According to legend, the hill is the tomb of Palemona, the Roman knight, the mythical ancestor of the Lithuanians.

Near the castle in the 13th century a pagan religious center (Roma) functioned. Destroyed, along with the castle, in 1294, was reconstructed in the depths of Swaziland. Bibliography
