Giuseppe Valentini
Giuseppe Valentini (born December 14, 1681 in Florence, Italy, died in November 1753) is an Italian violin virtuoso, composer, poet and painter.
Between 1692 and 1697 he was in Rome, where he studied with Giovanni Battista Bononcini. In the years 1702-1705 he was one of the 29 violinists of the orchestra conducted by Arcangelo Corella. From 1713 to 1743 he conducted the orchestra of the church of St. George. Louis King of France.
In the first decade of the 18th century, he published five collections of chamber music. two oratory for the church of Sts. Hieronima della Carita in Rome (1705), but only published in 1710 in Bologna Concerti grossi op. 7 brought him fame. In the same year he was patronized by Michelangelo Gaetani, Prince Caserta. From this period two operas are known: La finita rapita (1714) and La constanza in amore (1715). Over the next several years, he has held many church posts along with the maestro di capella. His position as a great composer and poet was emphasized by an invitation to the members of the Arkady Academy.
His work was covered by contemporary Vivaldi, Corella and Locatelli, and for a period of time the composer was forgotten. Nowadays Valentini's composition is unique.
He wore the nickname Straccioncino, which may mean little obdartus or gypsy.
