The Sudanese coup in 1971 - a failed coup inspired by the Communists under the leadership of Major Hashim al-Aty against the government of President Jafar Muhammad i-Numajri. The coup was carried out on July 19, but until July 22 the authority returned to Jafar Muhammad an-Numajri.

The attack affected Sudan's foreign and internal policies. As a result, many members of the Sudanese Communist Party were shot and several Communist trade unions were dissolved. An-Numajri has released the East German security advisers, condemned the Soviet Union and his allies for the coup d'etat.
