Mieczysław Mączyński


Mieczysław Mączyńskia (born 1882, died 1940 in Mauthausen-Gusen) - Polish forestry engineer, mountain tourism activist, social activist. Curriculum vitae

He was the forest director of the Żywiec estate. In 1921 he became the head of the Babiogórski Branch of the Polish Tatra Society. He twice expanded and modernized the shelter at Markowe Szczawiny. He added a shelter to a new cave near Pilsko. He supported the construction of large shelters in Hala Miziowa and in Zwardoń, as well as bold character projects of the young generation of Babia Góra tourists (including Józef Merta and Władysław Midowicz). From 1924 to 1940 he was a member of the board of the main PTT (from 1937 to 1940 one of the vice presidents). In 1940 he was murdered by the Germans in the concentration camp of Mauthausen-Gusen. His name is called the path from Huciska to Babia Góra (so-called Ścieżka Żywczaków).
