Juan Gualberto Gómez
Juan Gualberto Gómez (born 1854 in Sabanilla del Encomendador, died in 1931 in Havana) - Cuban independence activist, journalist and politician.
He was born into a family of slaves. He spent his youth in France and Mexico, in 1878 he returned to Cuba and founded magazines promoting the idea of independence of the island. After José Martís designation as the leader of the Cuba Revolutionary Party, he gave the order to start the war for the independence of Cuba (1895-1898), for which he was deported to Ceuta in 1895. In 1908 he returned from exile, then became a member of the constituency, deputy and senator. Bibliography
