Juan Gualberto Gómez


Juan Gualberto Gómez (born 1854 in Sabanilla del Encomendador, died in 1931 in Havana) - Cuban independence activist, journalist and politician.

He was born into a family of slaves. He spent his youth in France and Mexico, in 1878 he returned to Cuba and founded magazines promoting the idea of ​​independence of the island. After José Martís designation as the leader of the Cuba Revolutionary Party, he gave the order to start the war for the independence of Cuba (1895-1898), for which he was deported to Ceuta in 1895.
