John Nelson (swimmer)
John Mauer Nelson (born June 8, 1948 in Chicago) is an American swimmer. Three-time Olympic medalist.
Specialized in arbitrary style. He participated in the summer games in (1964 and 1968). In 1964, he finished second in the 1500 meters range, four years later he became an Olympic champion in the 4x200 meters freestyle relay and finished third in the distance of 200 meters. In 1966 he broke the world record at 400 meters (4: 11.8 min), but on the same day he was corrected by Don Schollander (4: 11.6 min). He was the winner of the Universiade in 1967.
