Wieslaw Urbański


Wiesław Urbanski (born September 21, 1957 in Pajęczno) is an anti-Communist opposition activist in the People's Republic of Poland.

He graduated from the Technical School in Czestochowa. In the years 1979-1985 he was a student of the University of Lodz (law and history). Since 1979 he has been a member of the opposition organization - the Movement for the Defense of Human and Citizenship and the Polish Youth Movement. Member of the Program Council of the Polish Young Movement. Participant of the demonstration on November 11, 1979 and "Katyn" in April 1980. Co-founder of the Independent Association of Students of the University of Lodz, then Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the University Commission of the University of Lodz. Delegate to the 1st National Congress of Delegates of NZS in Cracow. Co-organizer of the Lodz student strike in 1981. January 21, 1981, together with Wojciech Walczak, announces a strike on UŁ. Co-author of many political demands and a negotiator with the government. Co-organizer of the demonstration in defense of political prisoners in May 1981. The organizer of the distribution of magazines: "Bratniak", "Veto", "Opinia". Co-organizer of the patriotic manifesto on the occasion of 3 May and 17 September. May 2, 1981 beaten by the so-called. "Unknown perpetrators".

Interned in martial law from 13 December 1981 to 23 July 1982 in Łęczyca and Lowicz. Participant of the protest raid in ZK in Łęczyca in December 1981. After leaving internment he was active in the underground structures of Solidarity. He cooperated among others. from the MKK "We", the Working Group "S", the RKW "S" of the Land of Lodz. Until 1985 he participated in the activities of the Young Poland Movement and later the Confederation of Independent Poland. In November 1982, together with Rafal Kasprzyk, Mariusz Dychto and Grzegorz Dąbrowski, he organized a four-hour strike on the UŁ on the call of the underground TKK, after the dissolution by the Polish People's Party Solidarity. During his activity he was repeatedly stopped by the SB.

In the years 1988-1989 he was in exile in the USA. He worked, among other things. as a journalist of the Polish Radio. He acted in the Polish Republic of Independence in Chicago. He cooperated among others. with Andrzej Czuma.

After returning to Poland in 1989, as Deputy Director, Branch. "RUCH" SA in Lodz, member of the Board of PAI. SA in Warsaw. He became a member of the last Liquidation Commission of the RSW "Press, Book, Movement". In the years 1990-1993 he was the president of the ZW Center Agreement in Lodz.

In 1997-2001 a member of the AWR in Łódź. In the years 2008-2012 he co-founded the Independent Association.

For his activities he was awarded the Medal of Independence and Human Rights, Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and Cross of Freedom and Solidarity (2016). The Senate of the University of Łódź gives him the medal of Universitatis Lodziensis Amico. Bibliography
