Exogenous substance

Exogenous substance (exogenous compound) - a chemical that can not be synthesized by a particular organism, and is involved in the biochemical processes that occur in it, as a substance from the environment, eg through the digestive tract.

Exogenic substances may be necessary for the functioning of the body, such as vitamins or even toxins such as xenobiotics. They must be delivered with food because, due to the lack of suitable enzyme systems, human body cells can not synthesize them. They are called EFAs. In the human body, they can undergo other transformations.
