Wilhelm Hempfing


Wilhelm Hempfing (born 15 July 1886 in Schönau, died 6 June 1948 in Karlsruhe) is a German painter.

Studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe under the direction of the painter Friedrich Fehr and the engraver Walter Conza, who had a great influence on the work of Wilhelm Hempfing. After completing his studies he traveled to southern Europe, visited Spain, Italy and the Balkan countries, and then North Africa, from where he moved to French Brittany. It was also in Denmark, Great Britain and northern Germany. His work took part in exhibitions organized in Berlin, Hanover, and was exhibited at an exhibition in Munich's Glass Palace in 1911. From 1937 to 1944 his work was connected with national socialism, his works also took part in the Great German Exhibition of Art, which took place in the House German art in Munich. At least one of the paintings was purchased by Adolf Hitler, it was a work of "Sitting blonde", which depicted a woman as delusional as Eva Braun. The themes of his paintings were created in the spirit of Impressionism landscapes, feminine acts, portraits and floral compositions, and he also dealt with graphics and illustrations of books.
