Brakteat z Vadstena

Brakteat z Vadstena

The Brakteat of Vadsten (Ög 178) - a gold necklace in the form of a coin, probably a protective amulet, one of the oldest runes of the writ. Date of V / VI age. It was discovered in 1774 near Vadsten in the Swedish province of Östergötland. It was stored at the Stockholm Historical Museum, where it was stolen in 1938. Today is only known from the copy.

The coin had a diameter of 30.7 mm and weighed 6,124 grams. The image depicted the human head, the animal and the bird. The runic inscription starts at the top of the coin and is read from right to left. The first letters of the inscription are in the word of a tuvatu of uncertain meaning, which probably has a magical function. Next, a string of the old fuels, separated into three groups, is printed, the last of which is under the hanger and is invisible: hnijpps: tbemlŋo [d].
