Subdomain - a web address that belongs to a primary or higher level domain
DNS allows up to 127 nesting levels, 63 characters for a single level label with a limit of the entire address to 255 characters.
For example, the addresses "wikipedia.strona.pl" and "informatyka.strona.pl" belong to the main domain "strona.pl" and are its subdomains. Page "page.pl" is also a subdomain of the top-level domain (TLD) named "pl". Also, the often used "www" prefix is in fact a subdomain, and eg "www.adres.pl" and "address.pl" may refer to 2 different web pages. Usage
Subdomains are most often used to demarcate different parts of a site or different servers of a given site. For example, often the main page of the company is at "firma.pl", its forum - "forum.firma.pl" and the shop - "sklep.firma.pl". In the second case - server delimiters - we encounter eg many databases or file servers with other prefixes (eg "mysql1.strona.pl", "mysql2.strona.pl")
