Rød pølse - a popular Danish fast food and street food barbecue. Grilled sausages (pølse, like Polish sausages) of pork are usually served with mustard, ketchup or remoulade sauce. Their characteristic feature is the red coloration, obtained with the help of carmine. In the 1920's, unstable, unsold copies were stained red in order to hide their defects and were sold as very cheap products to the masses of the Danish poor. Men selling this type of sausage from streetcars are called pølsemænd.

The earliest mention of these creatures is dated to the fifth century BC, and its author is Herodotus. According to her, these ants inhabited the deserts of Persia and India and extracted gold from their sands. Several such creatures were kept in the residence of the King of Persia.
