Leontij Hagemeister
Leontij Andrianowicz Hagemeister (Леонтий Андрианович Гагемейстер) (born 1780, died 1833) is a Russian explorer and traveler. Pacific Ocean Explorer.
From 1806 to 1807, Hagemeister traveled from Kronstadt to Alaska, crossing the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean on a ship named "Newa." In the years 1808-1809 he studied the coast of Alaska and traversed the northern Pacific. In 1810 Hagemeister returned to Petersburg through Siberia. In 1812 he became head of the Admiralty in Irkutsk. There he also began to build the first ships for Baikal. In the years 1816-1819 he commanded a ship called "Kutuzov", which belonged to the Russian-American Trading Company. It was the first time he sailed the Earth, stopping in Alaska. In the years 1828-1839 he made another similar trip on the ship "Krotka". During this voyage, he discovered Mylachsus in the chain of Marshall Islands and determined the location of some islands.
The island and the Strait of Alaska bear the name of Hagemeister.
