Tektum, tegulum, epistom (Latin tectum, gnathoctectum) - anatomical structure in front of the body of some mites. Tektum generally means any lamellar extension of the exoskeleton to cover the organ or joint. In particular, it refers to a tegulum, an epistoma or gnathotectum, a tilapar extension of the anterior dorsal part of the idiosom, protecting the top of the gnatosome. The tectrum begins with the dorsal edge of the subcapitulum or at the base of the jaw. This is the case in the Holothyridae and the Jaguars.
In tektum mittens usually cover most of the capitol and in the distal part passes in the rostrum. This organ is called the rostrum tectonic and prolongs the prodosum (dorsal proterosomes).
