Frans Van der Steen


Frans Van der Steen (born June 14, 1911 in Lebbeke, died on September 27, 1996 ibidem) - Belgian athlete, long-distance runner, multiple country champion in 10,000 meter run, participant of the European Championship.

In 1932, Van der Steen won the first championship of the country in a 10,000 meter run. A year later he defended the title by setting a new record for Belgium with a time of 32: 27.2. In 1934 and 1938 he again stood on the highest step of the podium.

Belgian also ran marathons and half marathons. During the first European Championships in Turin in 1934, Van der Steen took part in the marathon run, which he did not finish. In 1939 he won the Grand Fond, a half-run run between the cities of Ninove and Anderlecht (run was the championship of Belgium). Bibliography
