Romano Bottegal was born on December 28, 1921 as the youngest of six children of his parents. In 1946 he was ordained a priest. After priestly ordination he entered the abbey of the Three Fountains in Rome. There he made a solemn profession in 1951, and then in the courses at the Gregorian University he obtained a license in theology in 1953. He died of tuberculosis at Beirut Hospital on February 19, 1978 after 14 years as a hermit. He was buried at Santa Barbara Cathedral. The beatification process is ongoing. December 9, 2013, Pope Francis proclaimed him venerable. Bibliography
