Janosik (film 1921)

Janosik (Janošík) - a silent Slovak film directed by Jaroslav Siakel, produced in 1921. This is the first feature film in Slovakia, and at the same time the only feature-length silent Slovak film preserved to this day. The film tells the story of a noble family, Janosik. The story is based mainly on the art of Jiří Mahen.

The film was made for the funds of the Chicago-based Tatra Film Corporation. It was produced in two versions - one for the Slovakian market and one for the US market. The last one was in 1975 for the reconstruction of the film.

The work was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
