African Union Commission
African Union Commission - executive and administrative body of the African Union, acting as its secretariat. It is headed by the chairman, who from January 2017 is Moussa Faki. The registered office is in Addis Ababa. Selection and composition
The African Union Commission was established under Article 5 of the Founding Act of the African Union. She is the successor of the General Secretariat of the Organization of African Unity. The Commission consists of a chairman, a vice-chairman and eight commissioners. They are elected by the Executive Council and appointed by the Assembly of the African Union for four-year terms, which can be renewed once.
The Commission is composed of commissioners: for peace and security; political affairs; infrastructure and energy; for trade and industry; for the rural economy and agriculture; human resources, science and technology; Economic Affairs. The region from which the chairman and vice-president of the Commission comes is entitled to have one commissioner, while the other regions are entitled to have two commissioners. At least one of the commissars from every region should be a woman. The Commissioners support the President in guiding the Commission within designated areas and departments and are responsible for the implementation of the AU programs and policies in these areas.
