Microsoft account (formerly Windows Live ID, formerly Microsoft Passport or .NET Passport) - Microsoft network service, providing one-time identification with single login and conducting safe operations, including commercial and financial. Identifiers, passwords, credit card numbers, information about the shipment and user's accounts are stored on Microsoft's servers, which makes it possible to make purchases and other services without multiple logins in various services compatible with .NET Passport. The system-based system replaced the earlier Microsoft Wallet embedded in Internet Explorer. Some of the functions of the Microsoft website use .NET Passport services, the same with all Windows Live services. A Microsoft account can be connected to a Windows 8 and Skype user account. In connection with the introduction of Windows 8, Microsoft changed the name of the service from Windows Live ID to Microsoft Account.

The name of the identifier is equivalent to the e-mail address, however, the address may be in any domain.
