Until 1957 he was the secretary of the Abkhazian Committee of the Communist Party of Georgia, from 1957 to January 1958 he was the chairman of the Abkhazian Council of Ministers of the ASSR, from January 1958 to 1965 he was the first secretary of the Abkhazian Regional Committee of the CPG and from January 29, 1958 he was a member of the Central Committee of the KPG.
