Miguel Viegas
Miguel Lopes Batista Viegas (born 27 June 1969 in Paris) is a Portuguese politician, economist, veterinarian, academic teacher and trade union activist, Member of the European Parliament for the eighth term. Curriculum vitae
He graduated in 1993 from veterinary medicine at the Technical University of Lisbon, until 2011 he worked as a vet in the agricultural sector. In 2004 he graduated economics at the University of Aveiro, and in 2010 received a doctorate from the University of Porto. In 2008 he was hired as an academic teacher at the University of Aveiro. He also became involved in union activities within the Teachers' Union (including the chairmanship of the organization in the Center region), as well as in the political activities of the Portuguese Communist Party. He acted in the Ovar district government and the Aveiro district.
In the 2014 elections, he was elected to the Eighth Circuit of the European Parliament from the list of the Unitarian Democratic Coalition. The EP has joined the European Left - Nordic Green Left.
