José Luis López Aranguren


José Luis López Aranguren (born June 9, 1909 in Ávila, died April 17, 1996 in Madrid) - Spanish philosopher and essayist.

He was a professor at the University of Madrid, he wrote many dissertations in the field of religious studies (catolicismo y protestantismo como formas de existencia 1952), ethics (Ética 1958, Ética y política 1963) and social thought (Moral y sociedad. Introducción a la moral social española del siglo XIX 1965). In his later works he combined Catholic views with elements of Marxism (El marxismo como moral 1968, La crisi del catolicismo 1969), constantly expanding his range of interests (Eritismo y liberación de la mujer 1972, Sobre imagen, indentidad y heterodoxia 1981, El trabajo y el ocio 1988). For contemporary Spaniards, he was a master and model of an independent scientist. Bibliography
