Johannes Lauristin
Johannes Lauristin (born October 29, 1899 in Tallinn, August 28, 1941) is an Estonian Communist politician, chairman of the People's Commissariat of the Estonian SSR in the years 1940-1941.
In 1914 he graduated from the school, in 1915 he worked in the factory, in May 1917 joined the Communist Party SDPRR (b), 1919-1921 served in the Estonian army. In 1922 he was a member of the Central Council of Trade Unions of Estonia and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth Union of Estonia, 1922-1923 edited the newspaper "Tallinski Robotnik". In 1923 he was elected to the Estonian parliament from the Communist Party, but soon the Communist Party was banned and he himself was arrested. Released in March 1931, soon arrested again and imprisoned, amnestioned in 1938, became a member of the illegal KPE Office, and from June to August 1940 was the secretary of KC KPE. After the annexation of Estonia by the USSR on August 25, 1940, the chairman of the People's Commissariat of the Estonian SSR, and on September 12, 1940 a member of the Estonian Communist Party (Bolshevik) Bureau of the Estonian Communist Party. According to the official version, he was killed during the evacuation of Tallinn on board the ship "Volodarski" or "Jakov Sverdlov"; According to Olga's wife, he was murdered by the NKVD because of non-compliance with Stalin's instructions regarding the destruction of private enterprises.
