Ulu

Ulu na San Blas

Ulu - a variant of a simple boat, dugout, used by Kuna Indians.

The boat is made of one trunk of a tree (cedar or mahogany) and most often has a length of 2 to 6 meters. It is mainly moved by muscular strength, using one heavy paddle that also acts as a rudder. The control person sits in the back of the boat. In the case of favorable winds it is possible to place a folding trapezoidal mast. It is possible to adapt the hive to the internal combustion engine, but due to the small Indian prosperity this is not practiced en masse.
