Nielsen SoundScan


Nielsen SoundScan - a system for monitoring sales of music carriers in the United States and Canada. Founded by Mike Fine and Mike Shalett. The data is published weekly on Wednesday, available only to subscribers, including music labels, distributors and other music industry representatives. Nielsen SoundScan is based on the Billboard magazine charts. Measurement of sales began on March 1, 1991. Released May 25, the same year Billboard magazine listed the Nielsen SoundScan based list for the first time.

Since the introduction of the system, the Metallica Metallica has sold over 16 million buyers worldwide.
