The Gospel of Nicodemus (1544)

Gospel Nicodemus - Polish translation of the apocryphal Gospels of Nicodemus, dating back to the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries.

The exact date of creation and the author of the translation are unknown. The work was recorded in 1544 by Lawrence of Grace in a code containing other works prose (The case of the hasty Lord of the Passion of Christ, the History of the Magi). In the manuscript of Wawrzyniec the Gospel was preserved in two editions. The first involves the story of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ and the descent into the abyss. Deprived of the beginning, is sometimes regarded as a continuation of the case of the hasty. The second editorial in which there is no descent into the abyss is, however, considered superior. This is a translation of the Latin version of Evangelium Nicodemi preserved in the manuscript of the Jagiellonian Library. The English text of the second editorial as well as its Latin foundation is a rare tradition of the text of the Gospel, preserving the archaic features absent in most other apocrypha versions.
