Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Holy See - Dicastery of the Roman Curia created by the motu proprio Fidelis dispensator et prudens, issued by Pope Francis on 24-25 February 2014. The formation of the secretariat is one of the first steps in the Reform of the Apostolic See, led by Francis on the recommendation of the Cardinal Council.

The secretariat is to be the executive body of the Economic Council created by the same document. The council consists of 15 people: 8 clerics and 7 lay experts in finance. The Council is to deal with temporal issues and the administration of the Holy See and the Vatican City, such as budget planning, financial management, human resources management and procurement. The Secretariat is headed by a prefect directly under the pope. The first prefect was appointed Cardinal George Pell, the current Archbishop of Sydney. Bibliography
