The etymological dictionary of the Polish language - an etymological dictionary by Aleksander Brückner (1856-1939), published in 1927 by the Cracow Publishing Company (many reprints - 1957, 1970, 1985). Contains 5850 passwords explaining about 26 260 lexical units (including their own names, and 27 "transcripts" such as "Fauna and Flora" or "Personal names"), arranged in a different alphabetical order. He was the first etymological dictionary of Polish and one of the first in Slavic.

The author was one of the most prominent Polish linguists of his time. The nature of the work is determined by the fact that his dictionary is intended to refer to a wide audience and that it is strongly marked by the stamp of individuality. The selection of lexical material draws attention to a large number of archaisms, rare words and even jokes (relatively less vocal vocabulary). There are reports that the author was going to prepare materials for a second, broader and significantly revised edition of the work - but they disappeared during the Second World War. Bibliography

Myrmex Indikos, pol. Indian ant - an alleged species of gigantic ants (according to Herodot's description, larger than foxes, but smaller than dogs). The earliest mention of these creatures is dated to the fifth century BC, and its author is Herodotus. According to her, these ants inhabited the deserts of Persia and India and extracted gold from their sands. Several such creatures were kept in the residence of the King of Persia. Gold was to be obtained by caravans made up of several camels in the heat of the day, when the ants were protected underground. You had to do it quickly, because the ants sensed the smell of people and went on the pursuit, and they were deadly dangerous. The names of the streets and squares were originally of a topographical nature, that is, they informed about: Researchers propose two names for these toponyms - urban or plateonimy. S. Urbańczyk points out that the older names were spontaneously formed and sprouted in the daily lives of the inhabitants of the place.
