Alan Hollinghurst


Alan Hollinghurst (born May 26, 1954 in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England) is an English writer and a representative of gay literature. He studied English literature at Magdalen College, Oxford. He worked as a literary critic at the Times Literary Supplement. He lectures at University College London.

He made his 1988 debut novel, The Swimming Pool Library, which, while touching the subject of homosexuality and British gayness, goes beyond the context of an environmental novel; In 1989, she received the Somerset Maugham Award. In 2004, his novel The Line of Beauty was honored with the Booker Prize. Also available in Polish translation is his novel The Folding Star. In 2011 he published another novel, The Alien Child.
